From underneath the trees, we watch the sky
Confusing stars for satellites
I never dreamed that you'd be mine
But here we are, we're here tonight
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Zim smilled gently as Taifu pointed out yet another constellation, telling it's story. The two laid in the tall grass beside Katahari's pond, gazing out at the blanket of black above. Their breaths fogged the cool air.
He took her hand.
(chorus) If everyone cared and nobody cried
If everyone loved and nobody lied
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride
Then we'd see the day when nobody died
And I'm singing
Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive
"Zim?" she asked, confused by his sudden action, stopping admist her fairytale.
"I've learned so much from you." he mumbled, caught in memories of years previously when he had first fallen for her. He stroked the head of their quietly sleeping toddler curled against his chest.
"Huh?"
And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
Singing Amen, I, I'm alive
(I'm alive)
"Taifu. Thank you." He stroked the engagement ring on her finger.
"For what?"
"Teaching me to love."
They gazed at each other for a moment, but his eyes drifted, widening, gleaming. He pointed to the scenery about them, and she gaped, sitting up. Fireflies danced about, swirling elegantly. The two stared in awe.
"Honey, wake up." she whispered to her child, nudging him.
chorus x2
His eyes opened, big and black, and after a few mumbled protests, he opened them fully, and gaped. He looked up eagerly at his father, who gave a permissive look. He jumped up, and giggling, chased after the glowing insects, dancing with them in his innocence.
Zim and Taifu looked at each other shyly.
And as we lie beneath the stars
We realize how small we are
If they could love like you and me
Imagine what the world could be
"Zim?"
"Hm?"
The child stopped as he noticed his parents caught in a long kiss, and simply stared, confused, holding his yellow baby blanket to him.
chorus
He clambered into his mother's lap, and she chuckled, nuzzling into his soft hair, his little perky antennas. "I love you too." The child beamed, and snuggled into his parents' caress.
"Mommy?"
"Hm?"
"I like fireflies."
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day, we'd see the day
When nobody died
We'd see the day when nobody died
